If you only buy one MacPhee skirt pattern, make it this one. The full skirt sews up in an evening: two side seams, an elastic waist, a machine hem — that's it. The inseam pockets are cut in one with the side seam, so you skip the fiddly pocket-bag construction completely.
You can finish the waist two ways: fold the top edge down into a casing and thread elastic through it, or gather the skirt onto a separate decorative waistband elastic for a dressier look. Either way it pulls on, sits comfortably, and travels well.

Difficulty: Beginner. A great first pattern if you're new to sewing or returning after a break.
Recommended fabrics: Choose a soft, drapeable fabric so the gathers hang well — rayon, cotton lawn, lightweight knits, or a fluid wool blend all work beautifully. Avoid stiff cottons, which fight the gathers.
Pair it with: A cotton knit top for everyday, or a crisp tucked-in blouse for work.
