Shipping & US Tariff Information
Last updated: 2026-05-11. — Tariff rules change often; we update this page whenever the situation changes.
How we ship
We ship from our workshop in Edmonton, Alberta with Canada Post. We work hard to keep shipping costs as low as we can:
- Patterns are light. The average pattern weighs 25–100 g and ships for about $2–$3 on its own. Adding more patterns to the same order usually only adds a little.
- Fabric orders typically ship between $10 and $25 for 1–3 m, depending on weight and destination.
- Anything over 500 g or thicker than 2 cm (fabric, notions, etc.) is sent as an expedited package for the same cost as standard — so it arrives faster, at no extra charge to you.
- We charge a $5 handling fee only for special requests (e.g. very specific packaging).
- If you’d like to order through the website but pick up from the workshop, place your order and then email us — we’ll deduct the shipping.
Shipping to Canadian customers
Standard Canada Post coverage across all provinces and territories. Most orders are shipped within 1–2 business days of payment clearing.
Shipping to American customers — tariff & customs update
ATTENTION AMERICAN CUSTOMERS!! Due to new tariffs on products entering the USA we have had to make some changes for our American customers. While we are still able to ship to you, the cost has increased due to the tariffs imposed by the US government.
We are attempting to bake the additional tariffs into our shipping charges — so far so good! — but if you order a lot of something that is made in China, we will be in touch with how to proceed regarding the duties owing.
Tariff rates are changing pretty often too, and we’re doing our best to keep on top of it. Luckily most of our products are made in Canada, so they are still duty-free under CUSMA. There are, however, additional fees now for brokerages to process every parcel crossing the border, regardless of what the tariff rate is.
There are also lengthy delays at the US border as customs navigate the new tariffs. Please factor that in: even though we will ship right away, your order may sit at US customs for 1–2 weeks before it’s released to you.
What this means for you in practical terms
- Most patterns and Canadian-made fabrics — tariff-free under CUSMA. Brokerage fees may still apply.
- Items made in China (some notions, certain fabrics) — we’ll contact you with the actual tariff before we ship if it’s significant.
- Transit time — budget an extra 1–2 weeks beyond Canada Post’s normal estimate to account for US customs processing.
- Tracking — every US shipment includes a tracking number you can use on USPS tracking.
Questions or issues?
If your order is delayed, sitting at customs, or you’ve been contacted by a brokerage with unexpected fees, please email orderdesk@macpheeworkshop.com — email is the best way to reach us and we’ll help you sort it out.
