Newsletter fall 2018

HI EVERYONE....

It's been a great Summer (and it's not over yet!)......BUT it is time to think sewing again!

Here's what Happening in the Macphee Workshop World.....

JEAN JACKETS WITH A DIFFERENCE!!!

We have been having super fun with jean jackets...make them short or long....make them with sweater sleeves..... make them with no sleeves... make them with a hood........make them from used Jeans,Ties, favorite fabric scraps and voila...a WINNER!! All you need is JEAN JACKET #295 (click to order) maybe a sweater and a little imagination!

Yes that’s a dyed doily on the back in the second picture!  In the next 3 pictures you will see that I bought two pairs of each kind of capris (they were on sale) and cut one set up to create the matching jacket!  I took the sleeves out of a sweater to create the sleeves and got a bonus sleeveless top!

Another of my Favorite Patterns this season is the AWESOME CREATIVE PATTERN #30 (click to order). My sewing buddy Doreen and I have just gone nuts with this one! We cut the one piece body from our favorite Kasha fabric (click to order) which is the flannel backed satin. With the flannel side up, we covered it with bits and pieces of fabric.....stitched it in place and then proceeded to finish the jacket with sweater sleeves etc.etc. No two are ever the same and they just keep getting better and better. They are contagious!!

Here’s some pictures:

MELTON

NEW MELTON COLORS JUST IN !!

Speaking of keeping warm…we have just received a bunch of new melton colors.

Melton is the firmly woven wool (that looks sort of like felt) and is great for any sort of Jacket or Coat or of course PARKA.

The new colors are a RIch Royal Blue, a nice Heathery Mustard, An Eggplant Burgundy, A Soft Grey, and a lovely Deep Red. These are in addition to our regular colors !

We also suggest it for the tops of mukluks, wool appliqué on garments, cushions.etc. or even my new PUFFIN PICTURE!

BONUS!   FABULOUS FIND!!

We were fortunate enough to find a beautiful lighter weight melton in Black only that will work nicely for capes, swing coats, blazers and more.  It’s soft and drapeable(same great price) and won’t last long ….

click here to see/order it! We might not be able to find it again….

INTERFACING

Image

FUSIBLE KNIT INTERFACING….We sold out of it at the shows and have had to replenish our stock…..

WHY DID WE SELL OUT?  the machine EMBROIDERY people are loving it for the stability it provides at the back of their work.  It’s of course great to use every time I cut the sleeves off or create a hood from the body of a sweater I iron on a strip where I’m going to cut to prevent the cut knit edge from disintegrating!

It’s great if you are making mittens from sweaters too... to hold things stable and make them easy to assemble.  . I’ve had many calls for mitten patterns(from people using sweaters) and I always send them our mitten book(#902) which has complete full sized patterns and directions for 6 different styles. It has been a best selling pattern for years!!

URBAN JACKET

This new jacket was made possible by the use of this interfacing!  It’s the URBAN JACKET# 55. it was inspired by the sweater I found in a thrift store.

Happy sewing till next time!

Linda's latest YouTube Video!!

Another quick and easy project that I love. THANKS FOR THE SPLENDID RESPONSE FROM OUR LAST NEWSLETTER.

Plastic bags are the plague of this planet so here's how to help!  You need one (or 2 or 3) that are SMALL enough to fit in a purse or clip to your backpack and are able to be WASHED. I first printed this pattern #880 in 1990 and now 28 years later it's still selling like crazy!

What a fine gift for Mother's day and an even greater gift for MOTHER EARTH !!  We are so convinced of it's worth that we did a FUN, INSTRUCTIONAL YOU-TUBE video to inspire and help you.

Yes we do have KITS AVAILABLE...

The kit includes the pattern, nylon fabric and velcro …... enough to make 2 bags !

SPRING HAS FINALLY SPRUNG???

Nothing spells spring in the air like BIRDS! Although it's a bit chilly in many parts for the real ones….we can make bright and colorful ones to welcome the season.

I first made them for a CELEBRATION OF LIFE that was held outdoors. They hung happily in all the trees/fences/clothesline, and uplifted our spirits. Everyone attending got to take one home for a parting remembrance.

Sew….the kits includes the pattern, fabric, feathers, eyes, wings and topcomb. For one bird.

All you need is a sewing machine, some stuffing and a gluegun.

BONUS….a great  learn-to-sew project for kids wanting/learning to sew!  Anywhere they hang, indoors our out, the air currents will keep them moving so they give them life! Try them in entryways, patios, pergolas and trees... all great homes for your bird/birds.

MEMORIES... WITH SHIRT APRONS...

I recently made shirt aprons for a friend who lost her father. It's such a great memory to create and wear some lovely aprons from his shirts. I just can't honestly think of anything better!

SHOPPING BAGS TO HELP SAVE THE PLANET

I'm thinking a great idea for all of us who sew is to flood the world with reusable shopping bags and free the world from plastic bags! There are over 500 BILLION plastic bags used world wide each year!, they sit in landfills for a thousand years!

This has been my obsession for many years now - in fact I first printed my "World's Easiest Shopping Bag" pattern in 1990! (28 years ago!!) ..............
